📚 Review: Duke of Manhattan by Louise Bay

Duke of Manhattan by Louise Bay
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I became a Louise Bay fan after reading King of Wall Street. Since then I have fallen madly for each of whom I’ve dubbed her Big Apple Hottie. Each male character has made my panties melt with the confidence and power they just ooze. Their alpha tendencies head my blood and each book has provided me with a rush that just turns me on.

All that said, Sam nor Max held a candle to how much Ryder affected me. Maybe it was the British accent. That alone would cause my undergarments to instantly desintegrate. Maybe it was his cool and calm demeaner that just screamed sexy without him even trying. Or maybe, just maybe it was the passion he had for his company and the love he had for his family and that he was willing to do the one thing he swore he’d NEVER do to save it all; which turned out to be the best thing that could have ever happened to him.

Scarlett was so easy to like. She was a girl’s girl and so confident, intelligent and had no fears in the bedroom. She owned her sexuality without ever being slutty or fake. Her sexiness was so natural it made it difficult for Ryder to ignore and resist the easy and comfortable connection between them.

Ryder wasn’t looking for love. He enjoyed the variety of women that have been around all his life. He loved sex too much to settle for just one woman his whole life. But being around Scarlett was so easy that his usual facade would practically disappear (just like my undies). The transformation in Ryder was so gentle yet exponential. He was always a good guy, but Scarlett made him that much better.

Scarlett was such a tough cookie all on her own. She’s had a failed relationship and the only thing she loves is her company. It’s become her purpose and helped her move forward after her hearbreak. She holds just as much passion for her company as Ryder does which is a shared trait that adds to their connection and is why they were both willing to go along with the agreement.

What I loved so much about this couple was that things were so easy with them that they never really had to pretend when it came to affection. It was all so natural that they had to remind themselves that it was all fake but they were only kidding themselves. It was obvious to everyone else how NOT fake things were between them. They were just so freaking cute.

I can’t NOT mention their steamy moments. Those two had some seriously nuclear level heat between them. That bedroom action was H.O.T!… but I’ll leave it at that so you can find out for yourselves.

This was such a great book and I can’t wait to ready more from this author.

FAVORITE QUOTES:
The memory of her face, her hair, her body – it had all stayed with me in a way that I wasn’t used to. It was almost as if we’d known each other longer than just a few hours. She’d touched me like she knew me.

If I was going to fake-marry someone, I could have done a lot worse. Scarlett King was clever, beautiful and f*cking fantastic in bed.

“Clean enough?” I slid my food from his hand, braced my hands on the side if the bath and stood. “Because I want to get a little dirty.”

F*cking Scarlett King was my new favorite thing to do. The more sex we had, the better it got – and it had been pretty damn good to start off with.

“Whatever it is that you’re afraid of, I’ll stand between you and it my whole life,” he said.

“But I’m scared of us. Of me. Of my choices. Of losing you.”

“You’ll never lose me,” he said.

I’d never have a problem kneeling before my duchess, but there’d never be a time when I wasn’t in charge when it came to her orgasm.

I just knew that Leyton’s story was going to be sexy, spicy and filled with everything that makes an entertaining and unforgettable read.  Nicole Edwards did NOT disappoint.

In Beautifully Loyal, we meet Leyton and get a glimpse of the life he came from before he joined the Adorite family and the Southern Boy Mafia.  Abandoned by his mother and abused by his father, his friendship with Max Adorite took him on a path where he finds a life he wouldn’t change and a family he would do anything for.

Ashlynn Adorite is sister to Max Adorite and has grown up in the life of the mafia.  She knows what it means to do whatever it takes for what you want and to protect yourself.  She’s tough and sexy and lives with a ‘take no prisoners’ attitude.  Being female, she’s often underestimated and uses that to her advantage.

For years, they’ve harbored feelings for each other but never acted on them; which leads to so much angst between them throughout the book.  The catalyst for them is Jase… Ashlynn’s head of security and regular boy toy.  His desires spark the flame that changes their lives.

Meanwhile, the mafia life gets in the way and Ashlynn is in danger.  This amps up the suspense element in the novel which kept me on my toes.  It was similar to a tennis match.  To left is danger and to the right is smokin’ hot sex and vice versa.  The steam level was top notch and worthy of a couple panty changes (so be sure to keep spare panties handy).  The M/M, M/F, M/F/M, M/M/F scenes were WORTH. THE. WAIT!!  Each providing all the passion and emotion that I could have asked for.

I’m curious as to who’s story is next in the series and can’t wait to find out!!

(Not Safe For Work due to the jaw dropping heat level!)

 * Contains explicit language

Ashlynn turned to see Jase sauntering down the hall toward her, his thigh muscles bunching with every step. She loved the way those faded jeans hugged him in all the right places, accentuating his muscular thighs, fantastic ass, not to mention the giant bulge he sported between his legs. The man had caught her attention from the very first day he’d stepped into her house five years ago, looking for a job. He was mouth-wateringly good-looking, and that voice of his… His words alone made her insides quiver with need.

She was ready for some action of her own, and Jase was just the man to provide that for her.

When Jase’s six-foot-two-inch, extremely powerful frame pressed her up against the wall, Ashlynn clutched his broad shoulders as she peered up into those sexy, crystal-blue eyes. His blond hair was cut short but not so short that she couldn’t slide her fingers through it and pull him down to her.

Jase nuzzled her neck as he slid his big, warm hand beneath her skirt, easing inside her panties and pressing his finger against her clit.

“Is this what you’ve been waiting for?” Jase’s tongue caressed the sensitive skin beneath her ear.

Closing her eyes and enjoying the tingle that ignited in her core, Ashlynn nodded her head.

“You’re wet for me,” he whispered against her ear. “So fucking wet.”

“Yes,” she hissed.

The man knew exactly which of her buttons to push to ratchet up her heart rate, and he didn’t have any qualms about giving her what she needed when she needed it.

“Were you thinkin’ about me?”

Ashlynn nodded again, her eyes rolling back as the pleasure intensified. “Don’t stop,” she murmured, riding the sensual high her body craved as he teased her clit.

His lips brushed hers lightly. “What’ll you do if your brother comes in and sees us?”

Ashlynn smiled against his mouth. “I’ll tell him I’m a big girl and I can fuck my head of security if I want to.”

“I love when you say head,” Jase muttered.

“You love more when I give it.”

“No doubt.” Jase’s free hand slid around to cup her ass, squeezing her close as he adjusted their positions so that he could push two fingers inside her. “Is that an offer?”

That was another thing she liked about Jase. He sated her every craving and wasn’t afraid to ask for what he wanted.

She offered another nod.

“Yes, it was an offer? Or yes, you want me to make you come with my fingers, right here?”

“The first, although the second’s not a bad idea, either,” she told him breathlessly, hating that his hand was forced to retreat as she slid her back down the wall, her eyes still locked with his.

While she fumbled with his zipper, Jase pressed his fingers against her lips. “Suck them clean and I’ll give you my dick.”

Never looking away, she took his fingers into her mouth, licking them clean while she freed his cock from his jeans. When he removed them, her tongue instantly lapped at the bead of pre-cum pooling on the wide, swollen head. His hands slid into her hair, gripping her firmly while she proceeded to blow him right there, in the hallway of her brother’s house.

This was probably one of the more private places she and Jase had gotten down to business in. They’d become notorious for acting on their urges spontaneously. It kept it interesting, to say the least.

Ashlynn wasn’t embarrassed to say that her sex drive was high, significantly higher than most women. Previous lovers hadn’t been able to keep up, which was likely the reason she had never settled down long enough to have a real relationship. That and she didn’t believe that sex and love had anything to do with one another. But if she was ever going to give in to love—if it even really existed—then she was damn sure going to be certain the man could sate her every physical need first.

Regrettably, finding that man wasn’t as easy as she would’ve preferred. Not until Jase, anyway. Not that this thing between them could be categorized as a relationship. But it was the longest amount of time she’d been with any one man exclusively. They’d been fucking like rabbits for about a year, and the frequency hadn’t lessened with time. In fact, Ashlynn was inclined to think she wanted him even more now. It was as though he knew her, knew what she liked, what she needed, what she wanted.

It helped that he wanted the same things. Such as Leyton crushed between them. Jase was openly bisexual, although he hadn’t been with a man in all the time they’d been sleeping together. To help alleviate that desperate need that ate at him, they’d started talking about their fantasies while she secretly plotted a way to get Leyton to succumb to his own desires. It was the twenty-first century, after all, and a woman was allowed to ask for what she wanted, to explore her sexuality and admit she had needs. It had been during one of those fantasy discussions that she and Jase had both learned that adding Leyton to the mix would be the cherry topping on a fucking kick-ass sex sundae.

“Aww, yeah,” Jase moaned, tugging her hair as he pressed his hips forward. “You’re so fucking hot like that, Ash. My dick buried in your mouth.”

That was another thing she enjoyed about Jase. He was incredibly vocal. There were times when he could almost get her off with little stimulation and a hell of a lot of that dirty talk.

However, as good as he was, no one was perfect. The one thing about Jase she’d noticed early on … although he was supremely alpha, when it came to sex between them, he had always submitted to her to some degree. Even if he topped from the bottom so to speak, he had always allowed her to maintain the ultimate control. And she knew, deep down, Jase worried she would break if he took that away from her.

Sometimes she feared he might be right about that.

Movement out of the corner of her eye caught Ashlynn’s attention. While she continued to suck Jase deep into her mouth, using her hand to stroke him simultaneously, she flicked her gaze down the hall. There, in all of his sexy glory, was Leyton.

Watching them.

He looked almost bored, but Ashlynn knew better. He was likely trying to figure out whether or not he should join them. She already knew what his final answer would be,but a girl could definitely hope.

I believe in love at first sight.

Every fight, every struggle, has been worth it.

I’m stubborn, but what woman isn’t?
She’s hard work and I love the overtime.

He’s frustrating and unpredictable. I hope he never changes.
I love driving her crazy. That’s half the fun.

Lou’s sexy curls.
Honeybee’s pink nose.

He still looks at me like I’m precious and unflawed.
She treats me like I’m the center of her world.

Our future will be full of happiness.
Despite everything, we’re two of the lucky ones.

I took the bait.
She was a lucky catch.

He is the wind in my sail.
She’s the anchor that grounds me.

The wake our love made is beautiful.
Every day I thank God for her.

No matter the hurdles, we’ve jumped them side-by-side.
No matter the obstacles, we’ve made it through together.

For better or for worse, I’d do it again.
I’ll love and protect her all the days of my life.

Anchor was a wonderful conclusion to The Wake Series novels.  It tied up loose ends and focused on the characters working to achieve their “happy endings.”

Anchor, picks up immediately where Sail ended and we find Blake recovering from the Grant incident.  While Blake recovers, Casey has grown close to Blake’s family.  They didn’t get to meet under the best circumstances, but his devotion and love for Blake has give them a good impression of him.

12047029_1688736611359385_5904011980157303916_nOnce recovered, the bond between Blake and Casey only grows deeper.  Now that they have the past in the past and Blake has given in to her love for Casey, things only get better between them.  This gives the story the finale that the characters deserve.

Now I do have an issue with how they handled the Grant situation.  As i read that part of the story, I was like What. The. F*ck?  I completely disagree with how that issue was closed.  It sort of caused the story to fizzle a bit for me.  My anticipation for Anchor deflated a bit with the disappointed that part of the story left me with 😒.

BingeAnchor

I do still ♥ Casey.  He has always been a favorite of mine.  He was always such a gentle man filled with an intense love for Blake…even when she didn’t make it easy for him. He stuck it out; which was a testament to his strength and will to fight for what he wants and loves. And the friendship that he and Blake has, was just as strong as ever. Even after everything they went through, they still had the ability to joke, tease and talk to each other in the cutest way.  Their shared sense of humor was comical and entertaining.

Anchor was a quick read that provided a subtle and sensual ending to a hero I loved from the beginning and a heroine I learned to love.

The breath she held came out in a gasp as he pulled her against him, locked an arm around her waist and took her mouth with hot, incredible greed.

Whoa. And here she thought she’d been on the ragged edge.

He was so much bigger than her in every way, he made her feel tiny and feminine and fragile. In all other situations her independent soul might have rebelled, but not now. Not with Stack. She trusted him one hundred percent, and wanted him even more than that.

Flattening her hands on his chest, she smoothed over the solid wall of his pecs, up to those rock-solid shoulders. Heat poured off him, and—oh God—he smelled so good. With his big hands opened on her, his mouth eating at hers, she forgot… everything.

The music and the conversation of other guests faded away. She tunneled her fingers into his hair and tried to get closer still.

Someone bumped into them; Stack didn’t stop kissing her. If anything, his tongue became bolder, exploring, tasting.

Laughter, probably from his friends, sounded nearby, and still he didn’t stop. He gathered her closer.

Jarred back to the here and now, Vanity pressed against him. A true gentleman, Stack immediately eased up.

Her lips tingled. Shoot, her whole body tingled. She drew in a shaky breath. “Wow.”

Proving he hadn’t, in fact, forgotten they stood in the middle of the floor at a friend’s wedding, he whispered against her lips, “Let me get you someplace private.” A softer kiss of persuasion. “I’ll give you reason to be wowed.”

Such a tempting promise.

Oh, how she wanted to haul him to the nearest quiet closet. But that would be dumb. What she wanted, what she hoped he ultimately wanted, would require hours, not a few frenzied minutes.

Voice filled with regret, Vanity explained, “I can’t go just yet.”

His rough growl proved his impatience.

“Very soon, I promise.” Adjusting their embrace, her arms around his neck, his hands at her waist, she put some space between them. “Let’s dance while you cool down and I—”

“Dream on.” But he eased his hold and fell into step with her. Gaze burning over her, then lingering on her cleavage, he asked, “How much longer do I have to wait?”

Vanity didn’t pretend confusion; she knew exactly what he meant, exactly what he wanted. “One dance. Then I need to get the bouquet out of the fridge and gather up some presents and—”

He groaned again, prompting Vanity to laugh.

“Let’s talk.” Maybe casual conversation would help cool his jets and give her a needed opportunity to regroup.

“Okay.” He leaned in. “I can’t wait to taste you—all over.”

All over?

“And to get you under me. Or over me. Your preference.”

“Stack.” Her shaky voice sounded weak. “Let’s talk about something that isn’t provoking.”

“Like what? Because honest to god, darlin’, after weeks of your verbal foreplay, I’m feeling pretty damned provoked.”

The smile came slowly. Teasing Stack was a true pleasure.

Justice Mine (Base Branch #2)Justice Mine by Megan Mitcham

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Law and Magdelena had a very suspenseful beginning.

After a year on assignment in Africa, Mags returns home and stumbles into something that has her going home to her family. Instead of finding her father, she runs into Law.

Their attraction to each other is most definitely there but ignored until their forced to go on the run and in hiding until they can find out who’s after Magdelena.

LAW was a sexy, military James Bond type with a tough and well built body. Despite his outward appearance, he was actually quite sensitive. After being closed off for years and still recovering from a loss, he is very hesitant to follow through or give in to his strong attraction to Magdelena.

MAGS was a very spunky chick. Even in the face of danger, she remained strong and handled herself way better than most would. After dealing her time in Africa, not only did she help the locals; she also spent that time to focus on herself which helped give her the inner strength that comes in handy during the ordeal she finds herself running from. This spunky, foul mouthed Mags only added to Laws attraction to her. He didn’t want dainty and Mags was anything but.

These characters had great chemistry and their banter was comical at times which helped keep the story from being over the top with constant suspense. It helped keep the characters real and relateable.

Megan Mitcham gives us a story that’s very well written. Megan gives us a third person POV from Mags and Law but does it in a way so we’re not reading this story as an alternating view of he said; she said. To me it helped the story flow more smoothly.

This is a recommended read for me.
