Title: Burn (Blook & Roses Book 3)
Author: Callie Hart
Genre: New Adult/Contemporary Romance
Publication Date: May 22, 2013
Let me begin with expressing how much I love Zeth. He’s just the perfect bad boy and I’m a sucker for a man with a stone exterior and a secret soft center. All I can say is that Sloan is one lucky beeotch! She gets to enjoy the amazingly naughty things Zeth does to her when they have their private moments.
Burn picks up immediately where Fracture left off. Sloan and Zeth are in a brothel trying to manage ways to stay alive so they can find and save Sloan’s sister. They’re already having to deal with a ruthless drug lord, now they have to deal with a badass MC biker gang that just rode in for a monstrous soiree about to take place. While they figure out how to survive…Sloan and Zeth inch just a little bit closer.
Sloan is just a great character. She’s strong yet timid on occasion. The fact that she can balance her desire for Zeth with her fear of him shows just how strong she is. She doesn’t deny he’s a dangerous man but accepts it and him for all that he is. Sure he has a tendency to scare the bejeezus out of her but she continues to hold her own against him and all the other menacing men she comes across. I think this is why Zeth wants her so badly. Deep down he wants someone to break through his stony layers and get to the soft gooey middle he hides and protects with his rough exterior and criminal behavior. I think Zeth feels that Sloan is just the person for that job. She keeps him on his toes by constantly surprising him with her reactions to the mess they’re constantly in. She always ends up doing the opposite of what he expects. He doesn’t know what side of Sloan he’ll get from one minute to the next and deep down…he loves it.
What goes down in the brothel is nonstop… from Zeth having to keep his cool and ‘cover’ while making sure Sloan remains unharmed. There were plenty of comical moments to lighten the mood and keep you pulled into the story. I love the banter between Sloan and Zeth. They definitely have great chemistry. I was hoping to get more Naughty time between the two so I’m hoping the next books in the series will give a little bit more.
All in all it was wonderful continuation to the Blood & Roses series. I will definitely NEVER get enough of Zeth.
Forced into making decisions no young girl should ever make, TJ must deal with her conflicted feelings for a mother who cared only for her career and a father who turned his back on his responsibilities. When TJ’s mother dies, the teen must go live with a father who is a stranger, in a town dying under the weight of poverty and ethnic divisions.
TJ’s father, Benedict Nowak, has given Roman Rincon sanctuary. Fresh out of three years in juvie, the only friend Roman has is Father Marcus. The priest convinced the court to remand the troubled teen to Benedict’s supervision. Roman has to keep his head down and his nose clean.
This excerpt is the scene when TJ finally gets to meet the elusive teen.
“Come on in, Roman. I want you to meet…” Ben waved in her direction, “…my daughter, TJ.”
The teen stared, eyes a flat obsidian, framed by impossibly long lashes, the thick brownish black brows creased into a single, disapproving line. Deepset, those eyes were all she could focus on, commanding her undivided attention.
Ben rattled on, “TJ stands for Theresa Jane…”
Throat dry, TJ mouthed a ‘hi’ but it died before her lips could form the word. To her surprise her father wasn’t filling in the blanks like she might have expected, spilling all her particulars.
No … her mother just passed. I’m all she has. Well, Tony also. But Tony’s gone, back to his unit. She’ll be going to the high school. We’ll see the prin—
Instead he’d turned back to his task, shoulders rigid with tension. TJ wondered why.
But then she looked closer at the man hiding behind a boy’s lean and lanky frame, at the sharp planes of his high cheekbones, the cruel set to lips just on the edge of full, a hint of a dimple offset by the tilt of his head that spoke to defiance and self-sufficiency.
The hoodie masked all but his face. Short sideburns shadowed by the fleece suggested raven dark hair. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he wore it long, perhaps in a tail. He wasn’t as tall as her father or Tony, maybe five eleven, but she’d thought him bigger the way he commanded a room, like he’d emptied it of air and filled it with his presence, something physical … and something not. That something seemed to hover in the air currents, leaving her feeling like cannon fodder in a bad horror movie.
She felt the catch in her lungs, the sensation of menace, but refused to look away. She knew all about turf wars from her mother: the legal kind with briefs and a quick wit, the other with self-actualization on each side of a tennis court, the advantage always Eleanore. Mostly she knew about negotiating. About trade-offs. Being bought. Staying out of the way. Rigging the balance sheet so losses looked less like failure and more like incremental skirmishes.
Eleanore cooked the legal ledgers to get what she wanted. TJ leaned toward a slightly different interpretation but both had understood a zero sum game.
Roman had that very special knowledge also. But one thing about him was different: he needed no one, he feared nothing. Of that she was one hundred percent sure.
When he turned away and left without a word, she and Ben breathed a sigh of relief.
I was intrigued by the synopsis for this story as I’m a big fan of the Paranormal genre, be it television, movies and now books; however, it pains me to say that I wasn’t able to get into this story as I had hoped. The book started off too past faced leaving me confused. Characters were introduced so quickly and I was losing track of who was who at first. Internal monologues threw me off. I couldn’t tell if the characters were remembering past conversations or just pondering to themselves. I also had a difficulty relating to the characters; which made it difficult for me to follow along with the story and feel for these characters. I neither liked nor disliked TJ and Roman, I just didn’t feel an instant connection with them as I have with past reads. I had high hopes for this read and it’s possibly just me but I wasn’t a fan. Everyone has their preferences and I know this book received many 5 star reviews but based on my experience with this story, I’m only able to give it 3.5. It pains me to do so as this is my first 3.5 review.

Will she submit to his desires?
Eric’s only reason for returning to his hometown is to care for his recently orphaned nephew. He knew the return would involve dredging up his past with family and friends, but he didn’t expect a lone girl to capture his interest and offer an escape within his new life.
Will his binds be enough to keep her?
Note: This book contains explicit sexual content (including BDSM themes), graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: M/f anal play, bondage, spanking, exhibitionism.
Skye Callahan has been coming up with stories for as long as she can remember, and by elementary school she was writing them down to share with friends and teachers. Ghosts and vampires were always her favorite beings to write about and those interests led to her debut novella Fractured Legacy in 2013. With Bound and Unbroken, her characters led her on a departure from the paranormal world and into the realm of BDSM romance. When she isn’t spending time with the voices in her head, she works to help other women design their own style of freedom as a consultant for Jamberry Nails, and spends time with her Husband and ferrets.

Please note: this book contains strong language.
Locked Together picks up immediately after In Chains ends. Savannah has joined Kayden at the Compound where slave training takes place. For Savannah it was an easy choice. She would do and give anything to be with Kayden but giving up her freedom to be with Kayden; Savannah didn’t realize what it would involve but her worst nightmare wouldn’t have come close. She learns first hand what it’s like to be a slave and that being in the Compound was no guarantee of alone time with Kayden. Kayden can’t understand why Savannah would choose to be there but is thankful for the time he can spend with her; but there are still those that want to keep them apart.
I was pleased with this follow up to In Chains and happy to see how the love between Savannah and Kayden would grow and overcome the many obstacles they faced. With so many against them, they face their self doubt and insecurities, but their love for one another only gets stronger.
Locked Together gives us more steam and intimacy between the main characters which results in a much more sexy read. Not only does their love continue as simple and as pure as it began but the sex is on a higher level compared to the first book. Locked Together was a great ending to Savannah and Kayden’s story.
This Naughty Mom give Locked Together by Michelle Abbot a BIG 4 stars.
Michelle Abbott lives in the UK and hates describing herself in 3rd person. She’s a self-published author of new adult romance, and likes to write about heroes who begin as the underdog and are protective of their girl. She’s an avid reader of romance, is addicted to coffee and loves wine and chocolate, so yeah, not the most healthy eating and drinking habits 🙂 She spends way too much time online when she should be writing. She collects teddy bears and occasionally knits a couple of rows on a sweater she started years ago, which she may eventually finish in time to wear for her funeral 🙂

Compelled by fate, will he sacrifice everything to save her?
Dylan McBride has never liked hiding—from his fans, the press, or his father. He’s left with no other choice after his father threatens Heaven’s life. Protecting his wife and unborn child is the only thing that matters. He’d do anything to save them. Even tolerate a connection she shares with her Keeper, the man sworn to save her life. The man he used to call his friend.
Layne’s struggling with his pyrokinetic abilities, as well as accepting his role as Heaven’s Keeper. As if kissing her didn’t make things awkward enough, he learns that their connection is more complicated than he ever imagined. So complicated, it affects not only his mind, but also his soul.
Though he’s taken to his Keeper duties, Heaven senses a battle between Layne’s heart and soul. A battle that’s preventing him from accessing his abilities. There’s only one sure way to help him. Their friendship must deepen. But nothing’s ever easy, and she soon discovers there’s a thin line between love, hate, and What the Heart Takes.
What the Heart Wants
In What the Heart Takes we see the bond between Heaven and Dylan continue to grow stronger. Instead of being able to focus on their new roles of husband and wife, they’re learning about their abilities and trying to ensure the safety of Heaven and their unborn child. Now that Layn knows his role in Heaven’s life, his struggle only grows as he battles with his feelings for Heaven.
Throughout the story we learn more of the history between the parents and the “secret society” they were born into. Bonds are tested and more secrets are revealed that will pull you to the edge of your seat. We meet new characters as the support for Dylan, Heaven and Layne grows.
“Love isn’t about what our hearts want or need. It’s about what our hearts take to keep breathing. My heart takes you.”
I found myself so consumed with this story that I couldn’t put it down. I kept my Kindle app open and couldn’t put my phone down. The storyline and intense emotions between the characters more than made up for the fact that I could barely see straight for a couple of days. This latest installment of the Soulmate Series is a rollercoaster for your emotions. I felt the story drag just a bit in some spots but overall, I was impressed. The ending had me rolling around screaming because I have to wait for the next book. It was not something I expected. Another very well written story from Kelli McKracken.
This Naughty Mom gives What the Heart Takes 4.75 stars

“It seems like all I ever do is write…and listen to Layne. He’s always whispering something naughty in my ear, like being dipped in chocolate. Now I’m craving a Kit-Kat. Welcome to my zany life, where sanity is optional, romance is required, and liquor is most definitely quicker. Jack Daniels keeps me sane, my characters, not so much.”

Naughty Mom Review
There comes a time when we’ve read a book that makes us feel honored to have been one of the first readers of a story. That statement applies to this book. I’m familiar with Ker Dukey’s work and have been a fan since reading Broken. Then I her follow up novel The Broken Parts of Us which went in a direction I didn’t expect and I was truly impressed with her growth as an author. After reading My Soul Keeper, I was in awe of the storyline and characters in her latest book.
My Soul Keeper is a story of Simone and Shamar. Simone is just the typical girl finishing her senior year of high school. Shamar is the son of Death and has a job he’s been devoted to for centuries until he sees Simone while performing the tasks of his current assignment. The moment he crosses paths with Simone he’s overwhelmed by his need to know about her and just be in her presence. Though unseen Simone can feel the comfort and calm Shamar presence brings her. The moment she lays eyes on Shamar she’s consumed by her desire to be with him. However, as her heart is drawn to Shamar, she feels her body fight the desire for another.
As the battle of good and evil wages on, Simone must too fight the battle between her hear and her body.
“You’re extraordinary. the light in the darkness, the smell of the meadow, the rain in a desert, the sun in the summer… Your fresh water in the clearest lake. You’re the soul of life, Heaven on Earth, the beat in my heart”
As I read the story I could actually envision it as a SciFi movie; which I love. Angels vs. Demons; good vs. evil and an all consuming love are all wonderful combination for a great read and Ker Dukey did a magnificent job of telling her story and transporting me to a realm where all of this is possible. My Soul Keeper is the first paranormal romance I’ve read since beginning my romance reads addiction. If My Soul Keeper is any indication of what I’ve been missing in this genre, I will most certainly be reading more of them.
This Naughty Mom gives My Soul Keeper 5 shining stars and looks forward to exploring more of this romance genre.
Not seeing Simone all week left my craving for her unsatisfied and vibrating my blood with anticipation for when I could feed it again. New charges have kept me busy and the temptation to touch her when she was reaching out to me in her bedroom after the party nearly consumed and broke me. Distance was what I needed but now I need to see her again. I waited long enough; I have proven to myself that I’m strong and not a fool to human weakness.
Sensing her soul I appear close to her. She’s in a shop so I go to the coffee stool positioned opposite and order a drink. The girl serving me blushes when she hands me my change. I can sense her attraction to me; it radiates off her in waves and has her embarrassed because of it. I smile with a wink at her and drop the change into the tip jar. I hear her intake of breath and laugh quietly to myself as I turn and almost spill my cup onto Simone’s chest.
“Oh my go…,” she gasps and her eyes twinkle with recognition. A smile falls over her face, stilling my heartbeat. “We meet again.” Her soft musical voice flows.
“I’m sorry I nearly scalded your…” I look down at her impressive chest and back to her face, which is tinted with the pink flush from my gaze.
“Body,” I offer with a shake of my head, which earns me a giggle. It nearly floors me. Pulling a stray hair from her mouth, she watches my movements. Parting her lips, her tongue darts out to moisten them; I caress her bottom lip with the pad of my thumb, taking the hair with it across to her cheek. There’s an electrical storm erupting inside my body. Her eyes are glazed; everything around us has fallen into silence, we are the only two who exist in this moment.
My thumb retraces it journey to her mouth with a press of her lips she kisses it. My whole body crackles and tingles. She’s turned on and it magnifies my own arousal. Leaning forward without thought of consequence, I touch my lips to hers. Her body melts into mine; the taste of her red lips is like the sweetest forbidden fruit. The warmth of her tongue slips into my mouth and I meet it with my own: grasping her face deepening the kiss. Her supple body moulds further into mine, her breasts pushing against my chest, our hips pushing into each other’s. The whole world falls away and I feel like Heaven has claimed me and this is it; she is my Heaven.
“Holy shit!” a voice shouts out, ringing in my ears.
Simone pulls away, breathless, her pouty red lips still slightly open and swollen from my kiss. Her eyes roam my face with bewilderment. “That was…”
“Amazing,” I finish her sentence.
Her friend grabs her shoulders and turns her from my gaze. It breaks the spell. I notice we have gathered an audience as were standing in the middle of the mall making out like we were in a private room. She looks around and drops her face to the floor, embarrassed. Lifting her chin, I whisper, “Never look down Simone, only up.” I bring my lips to her forehead before walking away once again.
When not lost in my mind of characters i can be found reading or spending time with family. I prefer a darker edge to my writing, not all life and love stories are light, some are grown from darkness. I was raised by a bookaholic. My mum started me on Anne rice as soon as i was old enough. I love losing myself in an authors world and create them for my fans.
