📚Review: Rock F*ck Club by Michelle Mankin

Rock F*ck Club by Michelle Mankin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I wasn’t like them. What I did was different. I didn’t take only what was meted out to me. I decided who and when and how. I wasn’t encouraging promiscuity. I was promoting personal choice. No one should be judged for their preferences, whether you were a rap duo into threesomes or a drummer who preferred to be in charge.

The moment I read the blurb for Rock F*ck Club, I immediately added it to my TBR. It gave me thrill to see that the character was going to turn the tables and reclaim her control by doing what men do all the time, without judgement. But nothing could have prepared me for what this story actually delivered. There’s no way I could have predicted the direction this story takes or how it would have left me feeling when I made it to the end.

Michelle Mankin wrote a story that touched on feminism, strength, independence, sexual adventure and self-discovery. Raven Winters’ journey took me on an incredible adventure. What started out as a way to get back at her cheating boyfriend turned into a viral movement that nearly spins out of control yet puts Raven on the path she was meant to take.

Rock F*ck Club was filled with lessons learned, love, passion, friendship, family and growth. I’m still a bit numb from the story…only because I can’t exactly put into words how I feel right now. But it left me with a sense of freedom, elation and peace. Kind of how I’d like to think Raven would feel if she was three dimentional.

I’m not going to go into any detail regarding the road Raven travels, becuase I truly think you should experience it for yourself. But don’t be deterred by the percieved premise of this story. I’m sure, like I did, you’re thinking it might be a raunchy yet fun rockstar romance like others out there but it wasn’t anything like that. YET, there is still plenty of heat and steam to keep your sheets warm and panties damp. I definitely recommend this book!!

FAVORITE QUOTES:
“From this day I voe to be uptight no longer. I’m going to ‘Kumbaya’ and give into my wild side, and you’re going to document it. It’s time to shake things up. It’s time for a new way of doing things. It’s time for women to be the ones in control.”

“Please think carefully before you make your choices. Sometimes control isn’t all it seems to be. Sometimes it’s just a matter of knowing who you can trust to get you safely home again.”

Nowhere to run. Nowhere to hide. His eyes beamed like twin spotlights exposing all my deepest darkest secrets.

“Raven,” he made my name a puff of air before he pressed his lips to mine and set my entire f*cking world on fire. Cold to combustible. Ice to Inferno. A blaze that he stoked as he moved his mouth persuasively over mine. Clinging to him, my hands over his, I decided that all the kisses I’d had before had been executed by amateurs.

An emptiness inside of me longed to be filled. To be taken. To surrender to this madness between us, and let it consume us both.

“Mark me.” I lowered myself to my knees on the carpet watching him in the window. He stood behind me like some kind of primordial god.
