What the Heart Wants (Soulmate Series #2)
by Kelli McCracken
Bound by destiny, can their love survive those that would tear them apart?
Dylan McBride thought he had it all when Heaven Lewis agreed to marry him. Yet the secrets surrounding them continue to build. Dylan’s father won’t accept his relationship with Heaven, but Dylan refuses to let his dad come between them. Even if it means giving up his life as a rock star.
His refusal brings a turn of events that may cost him Heaven’s life. The only person he can count on for help is Layne. While his best friend agrees to help, Dylan can tell Layne is keeping secrets of his own.
Among the chaos, Heaven is adjusting to her newfound abilities when she discovers they’re evolving. As if psychic powers aren’t enough to deal with, someone is making threats on her life. Threats that will unravel family secrets and put friendships to the test. All for What the Heart Needs.
“You’re lucky,” he said, his voice hitting that low, guttural tone that made her knees weak. “If we didn’t have people showing up in a couple hours, you and I wouldn’t leave this bedroom, today.” Leaning up on her toes, she brushed her lips against his, saying. “I’d say that makes me unlucky.” ~Heaven and Dylan, What the Heart Needs~
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
What the Heart Needs picks up immediately where the first book ends. It’s been a couple of months since Heaven and Dylan officially met and they are spending every chance they get with each other to learn more about the bond they share.
“The more we give in to what the heart wants, the more we
get what the heart needs. My heart wanted you from the
first time I saw you. My heart needed you from the moment
we were born.”
As their love grows so does the momentum of those of those that want to break their bond. What the Heart Needs answers many questions left from the previous book, but those answered only bring out more questions. Secrets come out and Heaven and Dylan’s love is tested.
I was literally on the edge of my seat as the story went on. Half way through the book I couldn’t focus on anything else. Work…be damned. There was even a moment between Heaven and her sister,Faith, where I teared up with emotion. We see more of Layne and discover his true intentions toward Heaven.
As this story ended, I was left wanting more and rushed to begin the next book; What the Heart Takes. This is one of the BEST series I’ve read and I’m in absolute awe of Kelli McKracken’s writing. The stories are written with perfect description. For me as a reader, it was always difficult to visualize the scene written. That is not the case here. I can literally visual the characters’ movements as I read each word.
So much is comes to light in this book and I don’t want to give anything away. I can only say I LOVED it. Another 5 Stars for Kelli McKracken.
As a curator of characters, you’ll normally find Kelli McCracken sitting at her desk, working hard on her next novel. When she’s not arguing with those persistent people inside her head, you can find her hanging out on Facebook, chatting with readers about books and upcoming writing projects.
“It seems like all I ever do is write…and listen to Layne. He’s always whispering something naughty in my ear, like being dipped in chocolate. Now I’m craving a Kit-Kat. Welcome to my zany life, where sanity is optional, romance is required, and liquor is most definitely quicker. Jack Daniels keeps me sane, my characters, not so much.”
Kelli lives with her husband, four children, and her German Shepherd fur baby in the Ohio Valley region in the United States. If you’d like to learn more about Kelli, please visit her on the web at http://www.kellimccracken.com
