John “Johnnie” Donovan is determined to make his relationship work with Kendall Miller, the attorney he met during his cousin’s birthday party. Before he can move on with his future, however, he still has loose ends to tie up from the past in the person of a rival MC’s president who is also Kendall’s ex-boyfriend. As Johnnie tries to balance his club life and personal life, another tragedy forces him to make a choice between the two. Will Johnnie be able to live with the choices he makes?
Kendall Miller is trying to pick up the pieces of her life in the wake of her ex-boyfriend’s assault. She’s ready to move on with her life and the man of her dreams, the sexy VP of the Death Dwellers MC. She demands his complete attention and isn’t willing to share her man with all the baggage of the MC. She doesn’t want to be an afterthought to him nor does she want to live her life in the midst of the clubhouse, especially with the competition taking place between Kendall and the club president’s wife. Then, catastrophe strikes and Kendall’s life is once again altered. Can she and Johnnie have a future together or has their love been doomed from the beginning?
The Death Dwellers MC series has to be one of my new favorite MC reads. I haven’t read Outlaw’s and Megan’s story yet but you can be certain I plan to start that next. Kendall and Johnnie’s story was filled with suspense and drama that kept me engrossed in the story and I couldn’t rest until I read the last page. I wouldn’t really consider this a novella, though. The length and content of the story definitely falls under full length novel in my opinion.
Misdeeds is a continuation of Misunderstood which gives us the final pieces to Johnnie and Kendall’s story. Pregnant and in danger from her ex-boyfriends MC (the Torpedoes MC), Kendall is on lock down at the MC compound for the Death Dwellers. Johnnie still trying to come to terms with what he feels for Kendall and how she and his unborn child fits into his life, he has to juggle this as well as the rising tension within the MC.
I was on the fence about Kendall. Her character was, at most times, weak and whiny. Understanding all that she’d gone through it’s understandable how fragile she’d become. I found myself comparing her to other characters and realized, Kendall’s reaction to everything made her REAL. It’s not natural for everyone woman who goes through everything she did and still be as strong as they were. Kendall was a broken woman. Her reactions were normal. Once that dawned on me, I understood her so much more. Her insecurities and jealousies are common in most women.
Johnnie was such a great guy. Understanding what Kendall went through and doing what he could to help her. At times, confused and frustrated he reacted the way most men would even clueless at times as to how to tread with her. But he never stopped trying. This was such and admirable trait in him. As the story progressed, it became so much more that I was literally emotionally invested in each character. Kathryn Kelly doesn’t just treat us to the main characters, but because she’s giving us a 3rd person POV we get to see so much more. We get the behind the scenes treat to Mortician and Bailey, Zoann and Val as well as a couple other secondary characters in the story. This gave so much more life to the story.
I have to say this was one of the most involved MC reads I’ve had in a long while. Definitely a 5 star read for me.
