Vic thought he was prepared. He wasn’t the type of man to spend too much effort worrying about what could possibly happen—it made more sense to deal with what did happen. He knew seeing Maggie again after all this time would be a shock, but they’d been partners for twelve months at best. There was no reason to think he couldn’t roll with this development the same way he rolled with every other.
Then he arrived at Goat Haunt ranger station. He followed Wyatt out of the chopper, using a hand to shield his face from the wind the blades created. The ranger station was set against Upper Waterton Lake, and with the mountains in the background, it could have been a scene out of a painting.
All of that paled in comparison to Maggie.
She looked good. Better than good. During her time as his partner, she’d been too thin, running on too little sleep and too much coffee, and her health had suffered as a result. Obviously being a park ranger agreed with her. The unfortunate uniform did nothing to hide how her curves had filled out, her body honed from the many hours of hauling around a pack similar to the one he now carried. Her hair was longer, too, the dark locks pulled back into a braid that hit just past her shoulders.
But she was still Maggie.
Even in the bright sunlight, he could see the way her dark eyes flashed as her shock wore off. And her nose, the only feature of hers that could never be termed pretty, was the same—long and slightly crooked from where it’d been broken in the FBI academy.
Maggie shook off her paralysis faster than he did. She frowned. “What are you doing here, Vic?”
“Agent Sutherland’s here for the murder.” Wyatt stepped forward, breaking what remained of the spell cast between them.
Rationally, Vic knew it had lasted seconds at most, but it felt like a small eternity. He struggled to put the past in the appropriate box to deal with when they weren’t on a case. When we aren’t on a case, I’ll leave . . . He shut the thought down. He had a duty to the victims, and letting himself get distracted by Maggie wasn’t going to find the unsub.
Even if Maggie was a bright, shining star in the midst of darkness.
He moved closer and slid off his pack. “Where’s the best place to talk?”
For a second, it looked like Maggie would pepper him with more questions, but she finally nodded. “This way.”

Title: The Hunting Grounds
Author: Katee Robert
Series: Hidden Sins #2
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: July 25, 2017

For two FBI agents with a past, love becomes a matter of life and death in the new Hidden Sins novel from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katee Robert.

Maggie Gaines used to be an FBI agent—top of her class and one of the bright, up-and-coming stars—until she spectacularly fell apart during her first high-profile case. That was eight years ago. Now she’s a ranger at Glacier National Park, and she’s found some measure of peace. But when the body of a murdered woman is discovered, she must finally put the past behind her and work with the one man she thought she’d never see again.

For months, Vic Sutherland has been hunting a killer who’s been targeting unsuspecting hikers in national parks—and now the predator has come to Glacier. Vic knows the case will bring him face-to-face with his former partner, yet nothing can prepare him for seeing Maggie again after all these years, or for the memories of passion it stirs in both of them.

As the investigation brings them closer together—and closer to the killer—Maggie and Vic fear they have only each other to trust. But even that might not be enough to make it out of Glacier alive.

📚Review: CARSON (Bad Boys After Dark #3) by Melissa Foster

Bad Boys After Dark: Carson (Bad Boys After Dark, #3; Billionaires After Dark #7; Love in Bloom #49)Bad Boys After Dark: Carson by Melissa Foster

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Carson was such a “feel good” story. No unnecessary drama, no strange or forced plot twists. It was straight to the point, sexy and just an all around great story.

For Carson and Tawny this is their second chance. A decade has passed and Tawny’s on a search to find her happiness which brings her back to her old crush and best friend, Carson Bad. They pull no punches. The connection they share is just as strong as ever and no time is wasted. There is no denying of feelings. They both know what they let go and neither wants to give that up again. Instead they’re going to use this chance to pick up where they left off, clear the air and start something they regret not starting all those years ago.

I loved this book and I loved the simplicity in how so much heat and emotion was delivered in Carson and Tawny’s reunion and their time together. Another great story in this Bad Boys After Dark series.

FAVORITE QUOTES:
One sinful Sunday night his voice had done more than soothe. It had slithered beneath her skin, fueling her desires, and he’d introduced her to his darker, sensual side.

He could run a marathon, bench three hundred and fifteen pounds, and take down the stealthiest hackers, but when it came to Tawny, he was powerless in so many ways.

“With any other women before we got together, or since? None of them got, or will ever have, what I shared with you. Ever.”

“I have never lied to you, or tried to pretend I was something I wasn’t. You know that. What we do together is who I am. The real me. Only you got the real me, Tawny. No one else.”

“I think it would be fair to say that I haven’t had a welcome home like that before either,” Jordan said. He pressed his lips to her forehead and wrapped his arms around her shoulders.
A part of her knew she should be embarrassed by the way Jordan manhandled her on the street. Lord knew that if her father had seen it, he would be in a state of apoplexy. But she didn’t have it in her to care. It was the most perfect reunion. She’d worn her favorite cream wool dress, cinched with a brown leather belt, but underneath it she was wearing new underwear from Victoria’s Secret in the hope that he might take her back to his place later. It was forward, she knew, but the last nine days of talking to the deeply thoughtful, and unintentionally sullen, man who currently had his body pressed up against hers had her all wound up.
Jordan’s brow furrowed as he studied her, like he was checking her over for injury.
“Do you ever really smile?” she asked. “Because I think I saw the glimmer of a smile when we went on our first date.”
“I do occasionally,” he replied gruffly
“If I kiss you again, will you smile for me?”
Jordan leaned forward and placed his lips right next to her ear. “If you kiss me again, I might just end up taking you standing up against this pillar. So I strongly suggest you take that pretty little ass of yours inside before I change my mind and do it anyway.”
Lexi shivered as his breath whispered across her skin and his words made her ache in the places that longed for his touch.
He reached for her hand and carefully peeled off her glove. Silently, he folded it and tucked it into her pocket. Then he repeated the process with her other hand.
She swallowed as he took her hand, scrambling to regain her control. They needed small talk, something less . . . flammable. “Are you looking forward to going inside?” she asked. It had been years since she’d visited the AGO, and when he’d asked her where she’d like to go, it was the first place she’d thought of.
“Yeah, I am,” he said, leading her in through the double doors. He leaned his head toward her again. “I’m really hoping that looking at stuffy old paintings and relics will help kill the boner you just gave me.”

NMST Review

“You were going to give it up to Duncan Dickerson?” he sneered. “Are you serious?”
I halted, staring at him. This was not good. “How do you know about that?”
“Anders overheard you and Hang talking.”
“Bastard.”
“Well?” he demanded, acting all authoritarian. Idiot.
“To be fair, I didn’t know his last name was Dickerson,” I said. “That’s unfortunate. Though, I wasn’t actually planning on marrying him, so . . .”
“Not funny.”
I shrugged.
“You barely know the guy.”
“Um, yeah. None of your concern. We’re not talking about this.” How mortifying! My face burned bright. People should just gather around and cook s’mores. “I appreciate that we’re friends. You mean a lot to me. But this is going to have to fall under definitely none of your damn business, so go away please.”
“We’re talking about it.” He advanced a step.
“No we are not.” And I retreated.
“You were going to let a complete stranger touch you.” Advance.
Retreat. “People do it all the time. You do it all the time.”
“But you don’t,” he said, taking the final step, backing me up against the side of his car and getting all in my face. “Edie, this is your first time we’re talking about. Isn’t it?”
“Yes, and it’s going to be messy and painful and probably horribly embarrassing and I just want it over and done with.” I tried to meet his eyes but failed, settling for a spot on his right shoulder. “You’re not a girl; you wouldn’t understand. Also, last time I checked, you’re not the gatekeeper of my hymen, John Cole. So back the fuck off.”
He said nothing.
Deep, calming breaths. “Look, someday I’ll meet someone I really like and we’ll have a deep and meaningful relationship and go at it like bunnies. But I don’t want to be the dumb virgin in that scenario.”
He slowly shook his head.
“Also, I do not want to die a virgin.”
“What? What the hell are you talking about?”
“Hey, you and I both know death can occur at any time.”
“This is crazy.”
“I’m seeing a therapist!” I told his shoulder. “I don’t know if you noticed, but I’m a little bit messed up these days. It’s hard for me to trust people. That’s not going to change anytime soon.”
He screwed up his face at me. “Wha—”
“I’m just trying to be practical.”
“Well, you’re being ridiculous. None of this makes sense.”
“It does to me.”
Again, he said nothing.
In fact, he said nothing for so long that I finally looked him in the eye. The anger had left him, replaced by an emotion I didn’t recognize. Worst of all, he still smelled like summer. A little sweat and the open night air, everything I loved. Liked. I meant liked.
“What?” I said, finally.
He let loose a breath. “I’ll do it.”

Chapter One
Broderick

I’m not sure how you handle things where you come from, Mr. Wolfe, but I can assure you it is not how we handle things in Gingham Lakes. Mrs. Tindall has been a value to our small community since the fifties, and her family long before then, and I have every intention of securing that legacy for many years to come. Why don’t you make things easier on yourself and remain in your high-rise office, which I’m sure affords you quite the dramatic view of Manhattan. You seem better suited for that than our ‘provincial’ town.

I didn’t even fight the satisfied smile that pulled at my lips as I let my eyes retrace her latest email.
God, this woman was a handful.
Determined and feisty.
A challenge I couldn’t wait to take on.
For the last five months, we’d been going back and forth via email. My interactions with this tough-as-nails attorney, who was working pro bono for a tiny company in an even tinier city in Alabama, had escalated with each click of send.
Maybe it was a little sick that I’d come to crave this game.
Cat and mouse.
Round and round.
She was sharp and obviously loyal. I’d never even seen her. But apparently, I didn’t have to. Just sitting there and reading the fight in her words made my dick hard.
There was nothing like a strong woman who knew what she wanted.
The best part was I wanted it more.
My laptop screen burned through the dim light of my high-rise office, which did indeed offer the most spectacular view of Manhattan. With a smirk, I leaned forward and let my fingers fly across the keyboard.

That is where you’re mistaken, Ms. Redd. I’m sure you’re well aware of our company’s reputation. The Wolfe name is the very definition of success. It’s the cornerstone on which our company has been built, and I will not let that name be tarnished. I will have that building, and in the end, my hotel will stand in its place. I’m trying to be fair, but make no mistake, if you force me into a corner, I will come out, teeth bared. I’ve been told they’re sharp.

A shock of lust curled in my gut as I sent the email. Why did I get the feeling I would love sinking my teeth into this woman?
It took only a few moments before my inbox pinged with a new message.

Is that a threat, Mr. Wolfe? Because if it is, I can assure you, my nails are equally as long, and I never hesitate to fight back.

Visions assaulted me. Ones of her nails clawing at my shoulders and raking down my back. Her body straining beneath mine as I ravaged her.
My breaths turned shallow as I typed out a response.

Is that a promise or your own threat, Ms. Redd? I’m up for either.

God. What the fuck did I think I was doing? I’d always been about the job. But this woman…this fiery woman had me stepping out of bounds. Saying things I knew I should never say.
Her response was almost immediate.

Don’t flatter yourself. You’re clearly compensating, and I definitely don’t need that kind of disappointment. Save yourself the trip. You wouldn’t want to embarrass yourself with that kind of failure.

“Oh, you went there, did you?” I murmured beneath my breath. I fucking loved that she didn’t hold back. My teeth scraped my lower lip, my mouth watering as I gave into the chase.

Failure is not a part of my vocabulary, Ms. Redd. I think we’ve already established that. But don’t worry, at the end of all of this, you will be thanking me.</span<

I pressed send a little too eagerly, becoming even more excited when I clicked into her quick response.

Only in your lofty, lofty dreams, Mr. Wolfe. I will see to it those dreams are crushed.

A chuckle rumbled free, and I rubbed at my jaw. She had no idea just how much pleasure I would take in crushing her.
This could have been an easy acquisition.
We’d made a more than generous offer, after all. Instead of accepting it and moving on, they let nostalgia taint their decision and rejected the small fortune.
Some people didn’t seem to understand when it was best to take the path of least resistance.
But you wouldn’t see me complaining. They had no clue just how much I relished the battle.
My cell bleeped and lit up where it rested on the glass desk, and I subdued the irritation that fought to work its way up my throat. I cleared it as I rocked forward and accepted the call.
“Father,” I said by way of hello as I stood and shrugged into my suit jacket before closing down my laptop and sliding it into its leather case.
“Son. Tell me you’ve taken care of the issue.”
“I’m working on it.”
“Working on it isn’t good enough. I needed this finished yesterday.”
I gritted my teeth in an attempt to keep from spitting the words at him. “I told you, I would handle this one my way.”
He huffed. “Haven’t you figured out yet that your way doesn’t work?”
A jolt of bitter laughter tripped from my tongue. “I think I’ve cleaned up enough of your messes that you would have realized by now that it does.”
If it were up to my father, he would have gone in there and basically stolen that building right out from under that old lady. His men had no qualms about making a threat or two to get what he wanted, bending people to his will by cowardly shows of force.
Silence traveled the line, the two of us at odds, the constant contention that had churned between us since I was a little boy so close to reaching its boiling point.
“Two weeks, Broderick. Two weeks,” he finally said. There was no missing the threat.
“I won’t need them.” My voice lowered. “And I’m warning you—do not interfere in this. I will do this my way.”
“We’ll see.” That was the last thing he said before the line went dead.
Fuck. I squeezed the phone in my hand. It took every ounce of willpower I had not to send my phone sailing through the air.
Broderick Wolfe Sr. thought he was the epitome of success.
Believed his efforts were what Wolfe Industries was built upon.
When in truth, the man was nothing but underhanded deals and greed.
Those were footsteps I refused to walk in.
I worked relentlessly for what I wanted.
Chased it.
Hunted it until I had it in my clutches.
And when I won? It was because I was actually the best at what I did.
I buttoned a single button on my jacket and shook out the cuffs. Lifting my chin, I grabbed my case and strode out the door.
I had work to do.
And I was going to love every second of it.

📚Series Review: The Pandemic Sorrow series by Stevie J. Cole

Pandemic Sorrow Series by Stevie J. Cole
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This series was way more than I could have expected. I don’t think I’ve ever met characters so broken. Jag’s story was filled with so much pain it literally shattered me. Rush’s story was much different than Jag’s yet so similar. Where Jag tried to numb life, Rush tried anything and everything to just feel something. Stevie J Cole gives fair warning. These novels do describe lots of drug use…but that’s what made the stories so real for me. It may not be for everyone, but these characters would not have been so amazing or their HEAs would not have been as fulfilling without experiencing their struggles along with them.

Roxy’s story exhibits a lot of strength for having grown up around drug abusers which made her the perfect person to help Jag find his way. Her story gives more of her background for those that want to understand her better. Personally, I feel the author did an amazing job in bringing so much life to her in the first book, that I totally understood her and where she was coming from. I adored her tough facade and completely related to her lack of desire to be around people, her preference to isolation.

📚Review: The Knocked Up Plan by Lauren Blakely [Enter Lauren Blakely’s HUGE Giveaway]

From #1 NYT Bestselling author Lauren Blakely, comes a new and sexy romance…THE KNOCKED UP PLAN! A standalone romance told in dual POV, THE KNOCKED UP PLAN is about all of the fun, hotness, and heartfelt emotions that come when a single woman asks her gorgeous, jaded, sworn-to-be-single-forever good friend to get one particular job done. What happens next when he agrees to provide the bun for her oven are lots of hot sexy times and heartfelt moments.

The Knocked up Plan by Lauren Blakely
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ahhhh! Lauren Blakely never disappoints. I fall in love with her characters so easily. Her stories always make heart pitter patter, awe and swoon! The Knocked Up Plan was no different.

The premise itself was enough to intrigue me and once I started I couldn’t stop (I even fell asleep on my couch around three in the morning because I didn’t want to pause my reading). Nicole and Ryder shared such amazing chemistry and I enjoyed every bit of their time together.

Co-workers and practically “sexperts” with their own radio shows, they each have their own take on relationships and sex. Of course, it’s completely opposite. Nicole hasn’t felt the sparks of love and Ryder was burned by it, so the advice they give their listeners is on opposite sides of the spectrum but it fit perfectly with their personalities. What adds so much to the story is the friendship they share. Nicole and Ryder get along very well and hang out together like buddies. She’s sexy but also the kind of girl the guys love to hang out with and Ryder is gentlemanly and pretty hot to look at.

So when Nicole thinks it’s a great idea to use Ryder as a sperm donor instead of the faceless names on a list they both figure it’s a great idea. Ryder is all for it. He can finally give in to the attraction he’s had for her and won’t be tied down once it’s all said and done. Of course we all know that’s not how it works out.

I just adored this story and it’s characters. They made me laugh and melted my heart. They both had so much depth that made them that much more real to me. That’s something I get with every Lauren Blakely book I read. Word after word is pure entertainment and fills this reader with absolute joy!

Review of All I Am: Drew’s Story (A This Man novella) by Jodi Ellen Malpas

All I Am: Drew’s Story by Jodi Ellen Malpas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Finding out this book was coming was a highlight in my life. I’ve missed the world that revolves around Jesse Ward and was completely excited to learn that one his best mates, Drew, was finally going to get his happily ever after.

All I Am is written solely from Drew’s perspective. If you have read the series, this takes place eight years after Jesse and Ava’s story began. His trust issues have him set in his ways and enjoying his pastime at his current club, since The Manor is no longer in business. No attachments has been his way of living but the moment Raya enters his life it’s like she jumpstarted his heart.

It was amazing to see the transformation in him. He was always a good guy and he didn’t deserve what had happened to him years before. It’s no wonder he’s lived his life the way he did. Raya sparked something in him. Her beauty entranced him and the mystery behind her eyes captivated him.

The chemistry they shared was erotic and beautiful. In giving her the detached pleasure she craved, he ended up giving and wanting much more from her than he ever planned on. He didn’t want the strings, any attachments or any other of the messy that comes from more than just the play he’s done over the years. But no matter how hard he fought, the man deep within that only those he’s close with, is craving it. Craving her.

Jodi Ellen Malpas did an outstanding job of writing this novella in a way that it could be enjoy on its own. It’s been a couple years since I read her This Man trilogy and I was able to enjoy Drew’s story without having to go back and re-read any of the previous books. However, I would like to suggest getting to know Jesse Ward if you haven’t already. That is one book boyfriend that gets under your skin with the most pleasurable love to hate/hate to love fascination. He’s one of the most unforgettable characters I have ever come across.

For such a quick read, this story had so much depth and emotion. It was beautifully written (and in some scenes… almost on the verge of being poetic, in my opinion) and a perfect companion for my This Man series collection.

FAVORITE QUOTES:
It’s just a sound, a sound of anticipation that I’ve heard from hundreds of women before her, yet from her mouth it’s the most powerful aphrodisiac I’ve ever encountered.

This woman radiates sex. She’s cryptic. She is temptation personified, and it’s a constant struggle not to grab her and kiss her.

Jesus Christ, this woman could be my downfall. Could make me forget who I am. All I am.

“But I know that every time we’re close, suddenly things are gray. I can’t figure you out. You’re warm and cold. I know what I’m scared of, but what are you scared of, Drew?”
“You.”

“I’m a man touching forty and for the first time in my life, I’m in tatters over a woman. You, Raya.”

If happiness was a chain, it would be platinum with solid hearts between every link and entwined around my swelling heart.
I’m chained, make no mistake, but I’m the most free I’ve ever been.

Haven’t met Jesse Ward?? Be ready for the most alpha, stubborn and bossy book boyfriend you’ll ever meet!

Review: Love Sprung From Hate (Dark Romeo #1) by Sienna Blake [Enter the Release Day Mega Giveaways]

Love Sprung From Hate by Sienna Blake
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was such an amazing modern twist on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. With the bit of a mafia feel to it, it reminded me a bit of the 1996 movie version. It was such a great story that pulled me in from the start. Sienna Blake put such a modern twist on such an incredible classic and then topped it off with bonfire level heat.

Roman Tyrell was born into a one of the most powerful families of Verona and it’s underground (allegedly), but he’s much more than his family name and its reputation. He won my heart from the get-go. I just wanted to hold him, kiss him and keep him…never let him go. He was sexy and dominating but there was a gentleness in him that lies deep beneath the surface. He’s plaqued by his family and reputation and meeting Julianna was like a light at the end of the tunnel that gave him hope.

Julianna Capulet has a career she loves. It’s he whole life. By following in the footsteps of her father into law enforcement, she’s set on making her dad proud by being the best detective she can be. So after unforgettable time spent with a man that rocked her world and left his impression on her soul, she’s at a cross roads. To find out that man is a Tyrell…well, she’s in a tough spot which just add so much to the story and keeps you reading to find out what happens next and how it’s all going to end for them.

This was a great story with amazing heat and I can’t wait for July 13th to find out what comes next. Love Sprung From Hate is a great start to this suspensful series!

The second we’d touched, it sealed her fate.

I wanted her like I’d never wanted a woman before.
I would have her.

He was more beautiful than I remembered. A dark god among mortals.

She had made me feel like I could be different. Because when she had gazed up at me, her honeyed hair spread across the pillow, her soft body naked and open, she gave me a reason to be different.

“You’re playing with fire, little girl.”
“I like the flames.”

SYNOPSIS

From NYT Bestselling Author, Laurelin Paige and USA Today Bestselling Author, Sierra Simone comes a steamy contemporary romantic follow-up to last year’s bestseller P*rn Star.

You have the right to remain sexy.

Anything you say can and will be used to get you in my bed.

You have the right to use my body to give yourself a delirious, life-changing orgasm.

If you have trouble…don’t worry, I’m a bit of an expert in that department.

There’s nothing ‘thin’ about my blue line, if you catch my drift, and trust me, I know how to put those handcuffs to good use.

***

Livia Ward wants a baby before she’s thirty. And even though Officer Chase Kelly is exactly the kind of cocky jerk this librarian has sworn off, he is undeniably hot. Both of them think they can give each other what they want–a few nights of fun for Officer Kelly, a no-strings baby for Livia–but this hot cop is about to learn that sex, babies, and love don’t always play by the rules.

I’m at the steakhouse fifteen minutes early, which is on time in Chase Kelly’s book. I’ve never been late for work or a date a single time in my life; in fact, I’ve always been early, which is a point of pride for me. And Livia walks in at seven on the dot, something that endears me to her immensely, although the moment I register that I, Officer Kelly, am charmed, my mind goes blank.
Just blank.
There is nothing but her.
She walks in on heels that make her legs a mile long, her long hair down in a tumult of soft waves. The maître d’ helps her take off her checkered wool coat, and then I.
Am.
Speechless.
My heart hammers up in my throat as the blood pools deep in my groin. She’s wearing a bright red dress—so fucking short that I’d be able to finger her easily if we were in a booth, which we tragically aren’t. The red sets off the warm undertones of her bronze skin, highlights the deep brown of her eyes. The lines of it hug the delectable curves of her tits, which are just small enough that she can get away without wearing a bra.
My cock thickens as she begins walking toward me, and I can verify that she is definitely not wearing a bra. Oh God, what if she’s not wearing panties either?
I bite back a groan and push back my chair to greet her as she comes to our table, tugging the hem of my sweater down in one smooth move as I unfold myself to help disguise the effect her presence has on me.
As I step forward to greet her, I notice the color high in her cheeks and the way her teeth dig into the soft coral of her bottom lip.
She looks nervous.
That gives me pause. I don’t mind a woman meeting me cold or shy or overly eager, I don’t even mind a case of the first date jitters—since first dates are pretty much all I go on, I see a lot of those.
But nervous—truly nervous—that bothers me a little. Do I make her feel unsafe? Is it my size? My job?
In a split second, I change gears. I can be patient when it comes to the Kelly Trio, and I find that the idea of wooing my nervous little librarian on date after date doesn’t sound tiresome at all…it sounds delightful, actually. A challenge. A test to see if I’m worthy enough to remove all traces of trepidation from her face and fill her expression with eagerness and surrender instead.
And get more time with this fierce, sweet bookworm all to myself.
I lean in to kiss her cheek, careful to angle our bodies so that I don’t press against her with six feet, two hundred pounds of hungry cop. Instead, I anchor her with a firm hand at her elbow, pleased to feel the goose bumps that spread underneath my touch. And then I brush my lips against her cheek, making sure she can feel them, making sure she gets just the tiniest brush of my scruff as I accidentally-on-purpose slide my jaw against hers as I pull away.
She shivers.
I look down into her eyes as I straighten up, and I’m suddenly aware that I’m supporting a lot of weight in my hand, as if her knees are weak from my kiss.
Well done, Officer Good Times!
Her eyes are wide, the pupils so blown and her irises so dark that her eyes are just huge liquid wells of want, and I feel a familiar tug in my groin knowing that I put that look there.
“I forget how big you are,” she murmurs, her head tilted up to look into my face.
I give her my biggest grin and open my mouth, but she cuts me off before I can say it, shaking her head. “I know, I know. I walked right into that one.”
But the ghost of a smile flits across her lips as I help her into her seat and push in her chair.
When I sit across from her and we start looking at our menus, I notice the smile has vanished and the nervous look is back, along with a determined set to her shoulders. The combination of uneasiness and backbone intrigues and worries me at the same time.
“I don’t know what Megan told you,” I say, “but I don’t bite.”
She looks up from the menu, her teeth back to digging into the plump flesh of her bottom lip.
“Well,” I amend, staring at her mouth, “sometimes I do bite. But only when I really, really want to.”
